How Children Learn:
Children learn through play.
Through play they explore their environment, learn to deal with problems, and learn to work within a group. Play means a self motivated, emotional connection.
Children learn through doing.
We provide a classroom open to exploring a variety of activities and situation where children can make decisions and choices on their own.
Children learn at their own pace.
Children are different and we should embrace and celebrate their unique skills and talents.
Children learn through observing others.
We are their role models. It is important that we listen to their thoughts and feelings and help guide them along the way.
Our Uniqueness
Our uniqueness grows as we serve the unique needs and desires of our families. Here are a few of our special features and programs we’ve created over the years to enhance everyone's experience here at PVCOOP.
Me Books
Each year, working together, we create a special book called the ME BOOK for each child. It is different each year but essentially it contains a photo memory of the child’s experiences here at the Co-op. Each parent participates in documenting two or three class activities, special days or fieldtrips by taking photos. Parents help to create a page in each child’s book which portrays their adventure. We have found that the children love these books and enjoy sharing them with family members to involve them in the experience they had during their year and in many years there after it is a treasured memory of their preschool experience.
Field Trips
We provide a field trip every month for our children. Some months we go out into our community to discover new things about new or familiar places like to the pumpkin patch, heliport, or grocery store. Field trips may vary from year to year, depending on the curriculum, children’s interests and parent volunteer who set up the events.
Special Days & Celebrations
Throughout the year, Pleasant Valley Cooperative Preschool brings learning to life through a variety of special days, celebrations, and themed activities that children and families look forward to.
Our classroom experiences are enriched with themed curriculum months and beloved traditions such as Snail Day, Career Day, and our joyful Mud Day, where children are encouraged to explore, play, and connect with nature.
We also celebrate seasonal and community events together, including Friendsgiving Feast, Santa visits, our annual Egg Hunt, Peace Day, Fall Festival, and our end-of-year Summer Picnic just to name a few. These moments help create lasting memories for our children while strengthening the sense of connection that makes our cooperative school so special.
At the co-op, these events are more than just celebrations—they are opportunities for families to participate, contribute, and share in the joy of our preschool community.
